Happy Christmas Ty Hafan

Simon and Laura want to say a massive thankyou to all those members that donated over 100 presents for the children at Ty Hafan at Christmas.

We are sure that the children thought they had behaved very well over the past year because they had received so many gifts from Father Christmas himself!

Curves Walk for Breast Cancer Sunday 25th October 2009

For the whole of October 2009, Curves of Chepstow and Caldicot have been taking part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month for charity. Fundraising events have taken place inside and outside the club involving staff, gym members and non members. Among the activities was a bra collection, where all the bras will be recycled and passed onto third world countries where women can’t afford them. Lots of local business in Caldicot and Chepstow got involved totalling a collection of over 100 bras. On Friday 23rd Curves hosted their annual ‘Girls Night In’. Again this was open to non members too and saw around 40 women attend. The night included fund raising activities and 3 special guest speakers sharing their experiences dealing and working with breast cancer. On Sunday 25th Curves members took part in a sponsored walk from Caldicot to Chepstow. The day started off with Sunshine and quickly deteriorated into a downpour. However, the girls stuck it out all in aid of breast cancer. Lots of money was raised, with one member, Sheila Meyrick collecting over £400 by herself. Curves would like to thank all that took part on the day and would also like to thank ‘On Six design and print’ for their contribution towards the special t shirts that were worn on the day by the members. Thank you to all who took part.

Curves Food Drive

Rita Harris with some of the donated Pet FoodDuring last years 'Food Drive' we collected food for the Salvation army. This year we decided to give to the animals. At our Chepstow and Caldicot club throughout the whole of March we waived the service fee for new members joining the gyms. Instead, they were asked to bring in a bag of pet/animal food upon signing up for gym membership. The campaign was hugely successful with lots of donations from new members and existing members. Hundreds of tins, bags and boxes of pet food were collected. We gave a large portion of the Cat food donations to The local cat sanctuary on Church Road, Caldicot which is run and funded solely by Rita Harris. The rest of the food went to the superbly run, ''All Creatures Great & Small'' in Llanfrechfa near Cwmbran. There they have over 200 animals including cats dogs, pigs, goats horses and exotic birds. BoLaura Warren & Butch!th these sancturies house abandoned animals who otherwise would probably be put down. They are always looking for caring people to offer new homes so please get in touch if you are looking for a pet. We at Curves would like to give a huge thank you on behalf of the animals to everyone who made food donations and helped them.

Curves Fight against Breast Cancer and Girl’s Night In

The Curve’s Members in Chepstow and Caldicot have raised over £500 for the fight against Breast Cancer aided by Olivia Newton John.

Members helped to raise money in a number of different ways. Janet Dewes, Emma Williams, and Mary Perryman completed over 240 laps of a swimming pool between them and raised a lot of sponsor money.  The majority of the money was raised in the ‘girl’s night in’.  During the night we had tarot readers, crystal readers,  and masseurs offering their services, and they donated all monies they collected to the cause.

During the night members took part in fun games, quizzes, a raffle, and a silent auction.  Many local businesses also played a big part in the evening as they all donated prizes.  These businesses included Wilkinsons, Albion House Hair Studio, The Limo People, the Millers Arms in Mathern, Sheryl long photography, and Scandia Shoes.  Our members also donated a large variety of prizes that also made the night a success.

The night ended on a serious note however, as Olivia Newton John delivered our members a speech on the importance of early breast cancer detection.  Olivia also shared her experiences of breast cancer. Members were then given the opportunity to purchase specially designed self examination kits.

On Tuesday July 29th Curves members raised £170 for the RSPCA by competing in a inter-club netball game. The members had losts of fun with the final score being 13-6 to Chepstow! This is in addition to the £600 that the owners (Simon Griffiths and Laura Warren) donated through 'key to a fortune'.
